SWELLENDAM AREA FOOD REVIEWS

by Josie Conrad

Countering the popular phrase “Left Out”, this blog includes perspectives which should be Left In when we talk about food.

Food and Philosophy

Food is both the highest pleasure and primary need in every one of our fascinating and varied cultures on this earth, be they hominid, fauna or flora. How to supply so much to so many is at the centre of all interactions on our beautiful blue planet.

Talking about food in all its breadth and complexity is thus a colossal discussion. It covers millions of years of evolution, the arrival of humans over 200 000 years ago, and a vast history of wars, famines, plunder, oppression, epidemics and human rights leading up to the current threat to the survival of our increasingly fragile  global eco system.

Nothing written here pretends it can affect this overarching history. It can only attempt, at a very small and local level, to affirm aspects of this discussion which should not be pushed out, but left in.
